Blood Drive Cancelled!

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Red Cross collection employees strike

“ The Red Cross workers are striking because the national organization will not agree to binding arbitration to decide whether they can negotiate for health benefits with their local chapters. They also are concerned over scheduling and working conditions for employees who collect blood, said Ann Twomey, Local 5103′s president.”

You can view more information about the strike here.

If please give us a call if you have any questions about picking up CSA shares or why the blood drive was cancelled.   Thank you for understanding this unfortunate situation.

The Kick off is tomorrow, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th.  Make sure to bring your reusable bags because we are having a pick up!  Not only will we be going over the expected crop list. We will also be explaining procedures of the CSA.  There are going to be games for the kids.  Plus there will be a CSA pick up.  We are also clearing out an old herb field.  If you would like to bring a pot or two, you may have a few herbs to take home for your garden.  But make sure to bring your pots to put the plants in.  If it rains we will still have the event.  We look forward to a fun and exciting evening!

Please note that we will only be open from 10-2 on Memorial Day, Monday May 30th.

Griggstown Farm Market CSA Newsletter May 18th 2011

One week away from the 2011 CSA Kick off invitational.  The growing season is going great so far.  At the Kick off, we will be announcing when we will start the CSA season.  I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait for the harvest to begin.  This year we designed the payment schedule a little different than last year.  In order to alleviate confusion later in the season, we asked for payment at the beginning of the season.  Since the season is about to kick off, we would like members with a remaining balance, to be prepared to pay the balance at the Kick off invitational.  This will also allow us to confirm all information that we have for your account.  We are expecting a great turnout for the Kick off; please bring your questions, walking shoes, and an appetite for fun.

Don’t forget about the Blood Drive! please follow this link to our own Griggstown Farm Market Blood Donation Website, hosted by the Red Cross.

If you have a garden at home like I do, you might be looking for something new and interesting to plant.  I’m always trying new plants to see what does well.  We have starter plants that can easily be planted in your home garden or to keep in the pot.  Nasturtium  - these plants are related to garden cress and mustard, noteworthy for a peppery, tangy (pungent) flavor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasturtium

We also have a few types of Sun flowers, Johnny Jump ups (pansies), Herb mixes, and

Borage http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borage

I am also happy to announce the start of Griggstown Catering.  Everyday our Chefs are hard at work creating great food for our prepared food case.  With their culinary expertise Chef Mike and Chef Alyssa would love to cater your next event.  Come in today to talk with them and receive information about what we have to offer.
