Community Supported Agriculture

Griggstown Quail Farm & Market is proud to announce the 4th season of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program designed to offer our valued customers fresh, local, naturally-grown produce at an affordable cost. Participants in the program will enjoy a weekly supply of freshly-harvested vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers when in season.   During weekly visits, shareholders not only receive vegetables at their absolute freshest, they develop a well-rounded understanding of how their food is produced; an experience not available at a supermarket. Furthermore, by supporting a local farm, you will drastically lower your family’s carbon footprint. Participating in Community Supported Agriculture does entail sharing risk with your farmer (i.e. flood, hail storm, etc.).  We strive to work with nature by maintaining flexibility in our planting schedule to ensure a substantial weekly bounty.  We are determined to provide a well-rounded supply of groceries for shareholders to take home and enjoy with their family and friends.  As with all local agriculture, the diversity of the produce available will change as the season progresses. We encourage our shareholders to embrace the seasonality of New Jersey agriculture and remain open-minded to our changing availability.

What’s New for 2012?

This year we are happy to improve upon our pick you own plots.  In the past we have had flowers, cherry tomatoes, and herbs.  This year we plan to have more of everything.  We look to add more beans, flowers and new items to the pick you own fields.

How It Works:

Weekly, the harvest from the CSA plot is divided amongst the participating shareholders. During designated pick-up days, shareholders simply visit our farm and receive their share.  We would like to invite shareholders, and their families to take advantage of the new pick-your-own plots featuring a variety of small vegetables and cut flowers.

Growing Practices?

Maintaining the health of our soil is of paramount importance; and with the goal of sustainability in mind we have adopted the growing strategy of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).  For more information on IPM please follow this link to the EPA website: http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/factsheets/ipm.htm#food

We will use the Rutgers cooperative extension as a resource when addressing the challenges faced during the season. The extension service website provides a wealth of knowledge on horticultural topics. If you have the time, check out their website: http://njaes.rutgers.edu/extension/

What Does It Cost?

$650 – Full Share / $375 – Half Share
Includes: A broad range of seasonal vegetables, herbs, cut flowers, and pick-your-own plots
Share Size: Our full share generally supplements the produce needs of a family of four, or two adult vegetarians. Our half share is suitable for two adults. Full & Half shares may each be “split shared” to accommodate two (or more) participating families or individuals.

When Will It Happen?

Shareholders may pick-up the weekly harvest on Thursday and Friday from 12-6 pm throughout the 20-week season. We anticipate an early June start date and a late October end date. Our farm is located at 484 Bunker Hill Rd. in Princeton, NJ 08540.
